The Dead of Winter
The Dead of WinterThe earth cracked, boiling water spilling out from it's fissures, carrying sulphur and the rest of the deep earth to the surface. As we stood, strong and sturdy in our years, we did the only thing we knew to: we drank deeply. It was immediate. The calcium carbonate rushed into our veins, inevitably cooling, and hardening into rock inside of us. And now, we stand watch over our own graveyard, cursed to the witness those who come to witness us. Us and our hubris.

Snarling Grizzly
Snarling GrizzlyEasily the most work I've put into a single frame in my life. I spent five days in Northern Wyoming and spent four of them trying to track down this guy. It was hard. Each morning, I'd wake up to a thin layer of snow inside my tent from the vents buckling under the new snow that night, and my breath freezing on top of me. I'd have to snap my shoelaces along their lengths so I could tie them that day - inevitably, I'd have to tie them again two hours later when it got above twenty-five degrees, and the laces expanded. I covered hundreds of miles following anecdotes and advice and logic, before finally, by chance, running into him south of the Yellowstone south entrance, and north of Jackson by about fifty miles. Absolutely worth every second of waiting and every step of hauling. What a magnificent and powerful force.

To move. To survive.
To move. To survive.Early October, Northern WyomingEach morning, as the temperature began to rise above ten degrees, the Bison would be leaving the hot springs, which they had used to keep warm through the night. Migration was necessary; Wolves would quickly push them to move to their next grazing spot, sometimes, urgently, sometimes, so urgently they needed to use shortcuts.
